New Session: Performance Tuning, Multi-Instance Management and Clustering

Another little change to the schedule see's Herrlich & Ramuschkat's Sven Ramuschkat replace our very own Kev McCabe.

Sven will cover Performance Tuning, Multi-Instance Management and Clustering.

The reason for the change is that we wanted to give a little more love to CFML... plus Kev needs to prepare for the closing end note.

Sean Corfield replacement sessions

For those who haven't heard, Sean Corfield has unfortunately had to pull out of Scotch on the Road. Sean's wife Jay recently broke her leg and as such Sean has canceled his travel.

As Sean was speaking at all 3 locations, we've had to mix things up - just a little.

Taking over from Sean in London, is fellow Railo staffer Mark Drew. Mark will present on Comparing Application Frameworks, so it's a straight speaker swap.

In Manchester, Intergral#s David Stockton will take over and present on FusionAnalytics: Seeing is Believing.

In Edinburgh, Railo head honcho Gert Franz will replace Sean and will cover Open Source Railo.

Apologies for the change to the schedule, but I think everyone can appreciate the reason.

Railo in the Cloud

In this presentation, Railo's Mark Drew will show you how your applications can live in the cloud, work with the cloud and use the cloud to increase your performance both permanent as well as Just In time computing needs.

It will cover deploying your application to Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud (EC2), Stax as well as using Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3).

If you haven't yet deployed to the cloud, aren't quite sure what the cloud is, or simply want to hear the subtle tones of Mark's voice, then get yourself in this session, which is London only.

For those attending Manchester or Edinburgh, Sean Corfield will be presenting on "Living in the Cloud".

ColdFusion & PDF - Improving Your Workflow

Placing an order, or receiving an order for some goods or services can be a long drawn out process involving: completing numerous forms, requiring multiple authorising signatures, providing different personnel with a copy of all the forms, waiting on finance to provide a Purchase Order number and so on. There's nothing good about this process.

With the release of ColdFusion 8, the ability to utilise PDFs in our applications surpassed the ability to simply make web pages printable.

In particular we can now work with PDF forms, and in this session, being presented at both London and Edinburgh, Fuzzy Orange's Andy Allan will show how we can integrate these into our applications and help streamline the workflow process.

Adobe's Serge Jespers is going to show you how to create blazingly fast developer workflows, and make you a rock star in the process.

Using Flash Catalyst, Gumbo (Flex Builder 4) and ColdFusion (Bolt and Centaur), Serge will showcase a suite if products all still in development.

Not to be missed!

Securing ColdFusion Applications

There's more to securing your ColdFusion applications by simply giving your ColdFusion Administrator a password.

Tag's David Rutter is going to help you by discussing ways to avoid the front pages of the news because of a security breach by covering topics such as XSS/CSRF/SQL Injection, coding for security, security and standards (ISO27000, PCI, etc), and what features ColdFusion itself brings to the table.

For those looking to harden their environments, or for those looking for a some security reassurance, then David's talk should not be missed.

ColdFusion is Dead, or is it?

Every year, there is a story that sparks another "ColdFusion is Dead" debate.

Peter Elst, a name very well known in the Flash Community, challenged the last such story by another well known Flash Community Gugu; Aral Balkan.

As part of his efforts to rebuke Aral's claims, Peter has accepted the challenge of finding out whether ColdFusion really is dead and will present his findings at Scotch.

In the build up to Scotch on the Road: London, where Peter will present, he has been looking at everything and anything to do with ColdFusion, speaking with people who have an opinion on ColdFusion, and he will talk a little about his own challenges with the technology and why he hasn't used ColdFusion for his projects.

A brave man indeed to take on such a challenge, but we think this will be one of the best sessions at Scotch.

Comparing Application Frameworks

A common question still to this day is: Which framework should I use?

Railo's Sean Corfield will be helping you decide with his session on Comparing Application Frameworks at Scotch on the Road: London. Sean will cover the similarities and differences between the two most popular OO application frameworks, in addition to touching on Coldbox, as well as showing how to structure your application and how to integrate other frameworks such as ColdSpring and Transfer.

This will be a really great session for those who are still undecided, those who are looking to take their development that stage further and for anyone who needs a refresher.

FusionAnalytics: Seeing is Believing

Intergral are well know for their fantastic FusionDebug and FusionReactor products, and for some time now they've been teasing us with the promise of a new addition to the Fusion product family; FusionAnalytics.

FusionAnalytics allows us to interpret and analyze log information, pulling data together into an organised and consolidated time series, giving us a unique perspective into what our applications are doing. No longer will we have to manually trawl through files trying to figure out what's went wrong, why things are slow, or to help us identify hot spots and trends and to plan capacity based on what is reported.

Here's a few snapshots showing the FusionAnalytics in action.

FusionAnalytics has reaped a huge amount of praise already, and that's even before it's been released in Alpha. Ray Camden even blogged that FusionAnalytics was the coolest thing at CFUnited 2008.

Well, here we are in 2009, and at Scotch on the Road: London, we're going to have Intergral's David Stockton not just talk about the product, but also demo the product.

The Fusion products are the essentials tools for all CFML development and monitoring, and Analytics is going to take things forward in such a way that it will blow your mind.
